Sharrott Winery Spring ’26 & More

May 11, 2026 by David K Mullen Leave a Comment

To all you mothers out there: Happy Mother’s Day! I hope it was a great one for you.

My wife and I decided to visit Sharrott Winery a few days ago, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy a little wine with a nice view. We have been coming here for at least 15 years. It is a family owned winery located in Hammonton. They have a large indoor tasting room, as well as a patio that can be enclosed, depending on the weather, and additional outdoor space for summer and nice weather festivals. I love the views of the vineyards and the neighboring property, with several horses that you can observe, depending on the weather.

The Wines

The White Flight

  • Pinot Grigio-One of our perennial favorites here for us. A nice, crisp and refreshing version with bright acidity. It won a Gold Medal at the San Francisco Wine Competition.
  • Vidal Blanc-Light and dry with subtle citrus notes.
  • Unoaked Chardonnnay-A nice version with apple and peach notes on the palate. Today I preferred this unoaked over the oaked version.
  • Bonus Taste-Barrel Reserve Chardonnay-Surprisingly, very similar in color, body, and taste to the Unoaked Chardonnay. For years their Barrel Fermented Chardonnay has been our favorite white wine at Sharrott.

The Red Flight

  • Chambourcin-A good NJ staple.
  • Tango-A very good, smooth, inexpensive red blend of two grapes. The grapes utilized are not stated in their tasting sheets or their website.
  • Cabernet Sauvignon-A decent medium-bodied version with smooth tannins and dark fruit notes on the palate.
  • Noble Red (bonus pour)-A full-bodied red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, sourced from Washington State.

The Food

Sharrott has one of the best kitchens around, for a winery. They offer everything from mini crab cakes and lamb chops to flatbreads and veggies and pita bread with your various dips. Unfortunately, I do not have photos of our food. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our two small plate choices: Guacamole (avocado, pico de gallo, lime, and corn chips); and Hummus and Pita.

Our Takeaway

We started this bottle of Pinot Grigio at Sharrott and enjoyed the rest at home!

We really enjoy the ambience here and they continue to upgrade the kitchen offerings. I look forward to enjoying the upcoming musical offerings, once the weather warms up a bit more consistently.

Our Mother’s Day Celebration with Home Cooking and NJ Wines

I make several dishes that my wife really likes, in addition to taking over the outdoor grill for the summer. But perhaps, Carol’s favorite dish that I prepare is Scallops with Vodka Sauce served over Penne Pasta. I use the Jeff Smith recipe for the Vodka Sauce, while adding scallops as an additional seafood favorite, that only makes the dish even more rich and special. I do experiment a bit with the cream and tomato sauce. This time I used tomato paste, using less due to the heavier concentration (and my issues with acid reflux).

I chose Hawk Haven Signature Reserve Chardonnay to be part of the recipe and to pair with the recipe. It remains one of my favorite Chardonnays in the state. It offers tasty notes of lemon, pear, and subtle hints of oak.

I also chose Turdo Sangiovese, as an additional pairing (I like choices and both of these work for me). Its smooth notes of tart cherry and currants are terrific. This Sangiovese is not just my favorite Sangiovese in the state. It is my favorite from anywhere. I need to stock up again very soon.
