First, my apologies for posting later than usual. While my new policy is still weekly posts, I will no longer shoot for Sundays or Mondays for publishing. In part, this is because I haven’t been very consistent with meeting my own goal. I also don’t need any other stressors like adhering to a self-imposed deadline. Storms, health issues, birthdays and holidays and other stuff happens. That said, this week I’ll be talking about a recent winery visit at White Horse Winery.
A couple of weeks ago my wife and I decided to pick up our allotment and perhaps have lunch at White Horse Winery in Hammonton. Their wine club involves committing to four bottles three times a year. Many others go with three bottles four times a year, but I am glad they don’t all have the same policy, as I am a member at several wineries and this would be problematic-too much wine and having to pay for them all at the same time! Okay, maybe you can never have too much wine, but there are limits to storing it and paying for it!
White Horse Winery
We always enjoy our visits to White Horse. The tasting room always looks great-rustic, yet elegant. We got to see the Christmas decorations before they were taken down, adding to the festive mood to our visit. We decided to enjoy our complimentary glass of wine with a great charcuterie board. When we finished those glasses, we ordered a bottle of their EBT Chardonnay, which we later corked and took home the remainder, along with our allotment.
- EBT Estate Barrel Fermented Chardonnay-A perennial favorite here with apple and pear notes and a creamy finish.
- Solera-An excellent full-bodied red blend of Cab Franc and Merlot with cherry notes and a smooth, but robust finish.
- Dry Traminette-A new offering, so we asked to taste and see if we wanted to keep it in our allotment or substitute another wine. Turned out, we both liked it. They also make a sweeter version, but this is a better version, in my opinion.
The Food
We chose a delicious charcuterie plate consisting of an assortment of meats, cheeses, nuts, crackers, and jam.
Our Takeaways
Our allotment takeaways from left to right below: 2021 Syrah; 2024 Traminette (Dry); 2023 Solera; and Painted White.
We always look forward to our visits and plan to return when the weather warms a bit and we can enjoy the great outdoors with some live music and maybe a hot pizza.
