Bellview Winery offers great festivals and live music. But their setting in rural Landisville is also a very pretty and relaxing venue for something we enjoy almost as much-a quiet, relaxing place to enjoy a little wine and cheese plate in nature. Sitting on their patio and no sounds of passing cars or exhaust, we got to watch a beautiful hummingbird, while we enjoyed our wine flights and charcuterie. We were the only patrons enjoying the great outdoors. Being retired means you get to visit on weekdays, soon after the wineries open! We even got to chat briefly with Jim Quarella, the owner, as he gathered pecans that had recently fallen from their big, beautiful pecan tree. He told us it is the second largest in the state. I didn’t even know they grew in New Jersey.
The Wine
My Wife’s White Flight (Pictured above)
- 2023 Pinot Grigio-A Silver Medal winner at the San Francisco Chronicle Competition. This is a very good refreshing version with bright acidity and citrus notes. Only $18!
- Adella-This is one of their draft offerings. A nice white blend of Viognier and Traminette.
- 2023 Chardonnay-A lightly oaked Chard with apple notes on the palate.
- Dry Rose-This Rose was the recipient of the San Francisco Chronicle Silver Medal and offers crisp and refreshing notes of strawberry. It is made from Chambourcin, Cab Franc, and Petit Verdot. Only $16!
My Red Flight (Pictured below)
- Draco-Another draft offering, this one is a bone dry red blend of Chambourcin, Petit Verdot, and Merlot.
- 2021 Coeur d’Est-One of the better versions of this Outer Coastal Plains AVA homage (“Heart of the East”)
- 2022 Blaufrankisch-A terrific version of this increasingly popular varietal. Tasty notes of blackberry, vanilla, and spice. This one won a Double Gold Medal at the Finger Lakes International Competition.
- 2020 Petit Verdot-A wonderful full-bodied red, packed with tasty dark fruit and winner of a Silver Medal at the NJ Wine Competition.
We also made use of our coupons for a free glass of the wine of our choice. My wife chose a glass of their Chardonnay (described above). I selected a glass of their Petit Verdot (also described above).
The Charcuterie Board
This was more than a snack. It was our lunch and our pairing with the wine flights and free glasses of wine. Their charcuterie boards are among the best (and least expensive) in the state. This one consists off three different cheeses, two different meats, crackers, fig jam, raisins, and cranberries. Delicious!
My Takeaways
From left to right below: Cab Franc, Blaufrankisch, and Solavita. The Solavita is a great, easy drinking, every day dry red wine (and only $17). We also took home a bottle of their Dry Rose (already consumed).
