I hope you had a happy Fourth of July! My wife and I definitely did. We decided to meet our friends, Jackie and Rob, at Terra Nonno Winery in Millville. We had open air seating on their patio, with cover in case of rain. It turned out to be a beautiful day, with a little cool breeze. Great friends, nice weather, very good wine, a BBQ Food Truck, and live music. We really were unfamiliar with the food truck and the music, but both turned out to be very enjoyable.
The Food
Since we were not sure about the food truck offerings, we brought some snacks, to supplement whatever we ordered. These included pretzels, prosciutto, tomatoes, mozzarella, and hummus. After nibbling on our snacks for a while, we decided to see what the food truck (South Jersey BBQ Boyz) was selling. We opted for a couple of pulled pork sandwiches, with coleslaw. They were pretty tasty and were hearty enough that we didn’t need to have dinner when we got home.
The Wine
My wife and I were familiar with the Terra Nonno wines, so we did not need to do a tasting or flight of wine. I ordered a bottle of Cab Franc and a bottle of their Unoaked Chardonnay. They have been among our favorites here.
2021 Cabernet Franc-A very good, medium-bodied version, offering ripe cherries on the palate. It is French oaked and nicely balanced, with smooth tannins.
2023 French Oaked Chardonnay-This is a subtly oaked Chard with medium plus body and a hint of citrus on the palate. It was smooth and tasty.
Terra Nonno’s wines are among the best bargains around, with most bottles available for $22 or less!
The Music
Music was provided by The Shimmy Shimz (a guitarist and vocalist and one guy accompanying him with just percussion). The music that they provided was the biggest and best surprise of the day. We had no idea what genre of music we would be listening to for the next couple of hours. We decided to move a little farther away, concerned that the noise on the patio and the amplification of the unknown music might make it too hard to converse comfortably. As it turned out, we were thankful we could hear the music from our new seats, since we really liked what we heard. The guitarist and singer and his percussionist played a very eclectic mix of music including music by Jack Johnson, Van Morrison, and Paul Simon. I would definitely like to see this duo again.
A good time was had by all!
