Being retired, it’s nice to have something fun to do on a week day. On Thursday, my wife and I decided to attend the first Vino & Vibes of the year at William Heritage Winery in Mullica Hill. As a bonus, we got to spend the evening there with our friends, Jackie & Rob. We lucked out with the weather that started out uncomfortably warm. But a cool breeze made the evening even nicer.
The Music
Joe Grasso was the solo performer on Thursday. Joe is primarily a Country performer, with a good voice and very competent guitarist. His skills were at their best (in my opinion) on the Beatles classic, Blackbird. Selfishly, I wish he had performed more acoustic songs of this genre, though the great outdoors may not be the best place to showcase these skills. But the bottom line–Joe’s music provided a very nice ambiance for this festive and well attended event.
The Food
The food was provided by two popular food trucks: Buon Viaggio Wood Fired Pizza and Baby Blue (of Carolina Blue). We have enjoyed their pizzas at a couple of other wineries in the past year or so. Our friend Rob got a couple of pizzas to share-a white one and a red one. I got to try both and enjoyed them very much. Thanks, Rob!
The Wine
To start things off, I ordered a bottle of white and a bottle of red. We later added another red (the Coeur d’Est described below), after our friends arrived.
2024 Proprietor’s White Blend-An interesting white blend of Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Petit Manseng; not as dry as I anticipated, but offers refreshing notes of apple and pear.
2022 Malbec Reserve-A very good Malbec; small production and limited to members only. It is medium bodied, with smooth tannins, and dark cherries on the palate.
2024 Coeur d’Est-This is a wonderful version of this classic Outer Coastal Region red blend. Made with Chambourcin, Merlot, Cab, Cab Franc, and Petit Verdot. It is bone dry, but with tasty notes of plums and berries and a hint of caramel.
Our Takeaways
Our outing nicely coincided with our pickup of our quarterly allotment (pictured below). I just want to add a few words about Heritage’s generous membership benefits. In addition to the 10% off single bottles and 20% off the wines in your allotment, they include two cards with each quarterly allotment. One is for a free glass of wine for you and your partner and the other is for a free flight for both of you. For their summer allotment, they included a free bottle of wine and a card for a free food item, celebrating their member appreciation during the month of June. This has to be one of the best membership packages in the state!

Chambourcin, Viognier, and Syrah Grenache Rose…
I look forward to enjoying these!
