Willow Creek Winery Spring 2025

June 4, 2025 by David K Mullen Leave a Comment

First, my apologies for my sporadic posts in the past few weeks. As I have alluded to, we have had a few medical and a couple of other issues recently that have caused some problems and taken much of our time. I think we are now doing better with these issues and by next week, I should be back to posting on Sundays or Mondays, as I have in the past. Thank you for your patience and thoughtful private comments.

If you have not yet visited Willow Creek Winery, I strongly recommend that you do so in the near future. It is located on Stevens Street, tucked away in West Cape May. It has been open since 2012, yet there are still a lot of people who have never heard of it or visited. Yet there is something for everyone here. Enjoy the great outdoors while you enjoy your wine? Prefer a large beautiful tasting room, with high ceiling and fireplace? Take your pick. They offer both. They even have something in between-a detached bar with open windows and a view of the vineyards. The food is a cut above most wineries, ranging from charcuterie to great sandwiches, and much more. As for the wine…

The Wine

There are again many choices here-dry to sweet, red, white, and Rose. You can order a tasting, a flight, a glass, or a bottle (or even a pitcher or jug of Sangria). My wife and I prefer the dry classics. We had done flights back in the fall and were familiar with their offerings. Since we had a dinner reservation in a few hours, we chose a couple of our favorite wines to enjoy with a pita and hummus platter. When it comes to white wine, our favorite here is their Malvasia Bianca (pictured below). They also make a Malvasia Bianca Reserve (which is a semi-dry version of this wine). It is also quite good, but we prefer the dry one.

2020 Malvasia Bianca (Dry)-This unique white wine is definitely one of my favorite white wines in New Jersey and beyond. I know I have shared my love for this wine in the past. It is fermented in stainless steel. I love the fruity fragrance and lemon and grapefruit notes on the palate. The finish is crisp and refreshing  It is grown in Italy and a number of other countries, but to my knowledge, this is the only vineyard in New Jersey (and quite possibly the only vineyard in the United States) where this varietal is grown. I am in the process of ordering a Malvasia Bianca from Italy this evening, so I can do a taste comparison in the near future.

2023 Wilde Cock Prestige Premium Red Table Wine-A full-bodied Super Tuscan style with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. It is a terrific red that is delicious and versatile. It is very smooth with black cherry notes on the palate.

The other Wilde Cock Prestige red I can recommend from previous visits is their Wilde Cock Prestige Gold (a full-bodied Syrah). They also make a terrific Estate Cabernet Sauvignon.

Our Take Aways

Obviously, we did not finish either of our bottles, so we took home our bottle of Malvasia Bianca and Wilde Cock Prestige Premium Red Table Wine and added another bottle of Malvasia Bianca for the road. We always enjoy our visits here and will definitely return over the summer months.
