The Red White & Brew Beer Company

February 5, 2024 by David K Mullen

The Red White & Brew Beer Company is located in Audubon. I was curious to visit for a number of reasons. The list of beers sounded varied and interesting and it is a short walk to another place I’ve been wanting to check out-Cafe le Jardin, a wonderful French restaurant. I’ll have a lot more to say about that visit in my next post.

My memories of Audubon were largely from my high school years-walking to the shopping center to pick up a new album at Korvettes or to play tennis across the street from there. There were two outdoor courts-the only outdoor courts within a few miles from Bellmawr, where I lived then. My friend, Jim and I used to walk the 2-3 miles, play for a couple of hours and then walk home. Tennis was not nearly as popular back in the 60’s as it is today. But I digress…

Red White & Brew Beer Company used to be a bank, at one time. You can still see reminders of this, as a storage room used to be a vault for the bank. The cornerstone outside dates back to 1927. The town of Audubon was created in 1905 as a borough from portions of Haddon Township and named after John James Audubon, the famed naturalist. Today, perhaps the most famous past resident of Audubon is the Super Bowl MVP Quarterback, Joe Flacco. But I must say, with a first class brewery, a delightful French restaurant, and a lovely main street (Merchant Street), there is much to be proud of in this hidden gem of a small town in South Jersey.

To think that Audubon has an excellent brewery and a new and wonderful French Restaurant, seems remarkable. Red White & Brew has actually been around since 2016. Again, not sure how or why I only recently became aware of this great spot so close to home.

Now more about the beers I was able to try at Red White & Brew…

The Beers

My wife and I shared two flights (one is pictured below). The bank theme influence is prevalent in the names of many of the beers and even the certificate of the flights sampled (Flight Withdrawal Ticket).

Flight 1

  • Belgian Strunk -A good Belgian Strong Ale. 10% ABV.
  • Barrel Agęd Belgian -Even better Belgian Strong Ale; Excellent with 10% ABV.
  • New Fang – English style pub ale; 4.4% ABV.
  • Vapor Transmissions – Very good American Pale Ale; ABV=4.7%.

Flight 2

  • Paul’s Midnight Ride – Porter; ABV=5.0%.
  • Parasocial Stout – My favorite brew in the tasting. Delicious coffee and chocolate notes. Not cloyingly sweet. ABV=8.2%.
  • Barrel Aged Uncle Sam’s Wee Heavy -Interesting and tasty with 8.5% ABV.
  • Checks and Balances – A nice, easy drinking IPA; ABV=6.5%.

Our Takeaways

I had to bring home a four pack of the Parasocial Stout! Our other takeaway: This is a very good brewery and this place has a really cool vibe. Check out their website here: redwhiteandbrewbeercompany.com  Then visit them. I think you’ll be glad you did.

Hi David: I just recently started to get your emails and can’t wait to start trying many of the places you mention. But most of all, I’m from Audubon! 🙂 I’m so glad you enjoyed the brewery. They have worked hard to get it going and seem to be getting better and better, plus they have fun nights like trivia, etc. I have no doubt you will enjoy Cafe Le Jardin, went there for brunch and it was delicious. Merchant St. is constantly growing and changing and definitely has many great options for food or have a drink. We have another new restaurant I believe is Dominican food (Cafe Nítido). I’ve heard it was amazing. Hope you come back and try many more places!

Paula, Thank you so much for being a subscriber and for the nice comments. We will more than likely be back in Audubon down the road. In the meantime, perhaps when you read my reply, you will also be reading my post about Cafe le Jardin, as I am working on that today and will hopefully be able to post before the Super Bowl.Cheers!
