Vino & Vibes June 2022

June 5, 2022 by David K Mullen

Vino & Vibes is a summer concert series at William Heritage Winery in Mullica Hill. They are offered every Thursday night beginning June 2 and running until August 25. My wife and I attended the first one of the season on Thursday, despite the dark clouds and dire predictions about the weather. We have been to a number of these in the past, but with the Pandemic still lingering, we wanted to do something fun outside, socially distancing, while enjoying some good wine. Our reserved seats were just a few steps away from the winery and were at least 8-10 feet away from the nearest table.

The Vino

I purchased a bottle of Semillon and a bottle of Painted Horse.

  • 2021 Semillon was newly bottled and released. We have had previous vintages (which were quite good). The 2021 Semillon is a delicious medium-bodied white with with a rich mouthfeel, good acidity, a hint of lemon on the palate, and a refreshing finish. I don’t believe there is another New Jersey winery that offers this wine or grows these grapes.
  • 2020 Painted Horse-A very good fruit forward red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, and Malbec. It offers notes of blueberry, blackberry, and strawberry on the palate.

We both enjoyed a glass of the Semillon, before switching to the Painted Horse to enjoy with our pizza.

The Vibes

Music was provided by Greg Jones, an acoustic guitarist with a strong, soulful voice. Greg played a number of cover songs that we enjoyed, including Van Morrison “(Into the Mystic”); Creedence Clearwater Revival (“Have You Ever Seen the Rain?”); and a Tom Petty tune. We were sorry that we did not get to hear more of his music, but we will definitely check him out at a future venue.

The Food Trucks

Two of my favorite food trucks were at this event (Carolina Blue and Buon Viaggio Wood Fired Pizza). Ultimately we chose a quick, easy, and delicious thin crust pizza from Buon Viaggio (pictured below). We actually wound up taking the pizza home and eating it there, as the skies continued to darken and we felt our first rain drops after we opened the pizza box. The Margherita pizza was terrific, after a quick warm-up. I love that the crust is thin, but not a mess when you pick up a piece.

We shall return for at least one or two more Vino & Vibe Nights and more at William Heritage Winery. I plan on getting more of their Semillon the next time we visit.

Cheers!
