Villari Vineyards Haddon Heights Satellite

July 7, 2019 by David K Mullen

Villari Vineyards is located in Sewell, but they do not have a tasting room. This has not stopped them from offering their wines to patrons. In addition to doing many of the wine festivals, they sell their wines in local liquor stores and they have had a presence at a pizzeria in Mullica Hill. Their most recent addition is a small, but hip space in Haddon Heights. It is located at 133 East Atlantic Avenue. I have not written about Villari Vineyards in some time, so I thought I’d check out their wines in their latest digs.

The above photo shows the Villari dry wines. The dry whites include:

Albarino-A pretty good estate-grown version

Chardonnay-lightly oaked; nice acidity; well balanced; very good.

Rose-A dry, crisp version; darker than many I have had, but a good one

Moscato-Semi-sweet (not cloyingly sweet)

Their dry reds are my favorites:

Malbec-A very good one, produced with grapes from Washington State

Cabernet Sauvignon-Also produced from grapes from Washington State (and also quite good)

Merlot-Perhaps my favorite at previous tastings (though not available at the time of this tasting)

Chambourcin-Their grapes and a very good wine. Sold out, but coming soon. Fortunately it was available from my cellar.

Pictured above are Villari Vineyard’s Sweet wines. Produced under the One Nation Label, they include:

  • Red-red grape; apple wine
  • White-white grape, peach, apple wine
  • Blue-blueberry, apple wine
  • Pink-strawberry, peach, apple wine
  • Pink Lemonade
  • American Passion
  • American Apple Pie
  • 21 Blue their Port-style wine (with a blueberry base).

Note: They also make a Sangria combining their Red, White and Blue (nor currently available)

I only opted to taste their “21” Port-style wine. While not a traditional Port-style wine, it was a pretty good change of pace. Glad I got to taste it and glad I saved if for last, as it was by far the sweetest wine in my tasting.

Speaking of tasting, did I mention the tastings are free? You don’t get any more reasonable than that! Speaking of reasonable, the wines are all reasonably priced (almost all of their wines are under $20).

Villari Vineyards has wisely chosen the locations they have, based upon the BYOB’s close by. In Mullica Hill, they have teamed up with Holy Tomato Too on Main Street. The day my wife and I visited their Haddon Heights tasting room, the Local Links Market Cafe was doing a booming business at their sidewalk cafe. There was live music and patrons were stocking up on their wines next door at Villari’s tasting room. If we hadn’t had reservations elsewhere, we would have joined the lively, fun-loving diners here. Next time for sure! There are also several other BYOB restaurants nearby, including an old favorite, Anthony’s, on Station Avenue.

Cheers!
