Cream Ridge Winery

Cream Ridge Winery has been open to the public for 28 years (one of the older NJ wineries).  The wine that has consistently been their best seller all of these years has been their AlmondBerry Wine – made from the Niagra Grapes, raspberries, and just a touch of almond.  Confessing upfront that I am generally not a sweet wine lover, hearing that this was such a big part of their history I had to try this after the drier offerings mentioned below.  It was actually quite good.  Encouraged by this, I decided to try two other sweet wines: ChocolateBerry (Blackberry Wine infused with dark cocoa) and CocoaCurrant (tart black currants with rich dark chocolate).  OK so maybe there is a place for sweet wines (after dinner, with dessert, or AS THE DESSERT)!

While the Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Cab, Sangiovese, Aurello’s Red, and “99 Rows-99Days” were all decent, my favorite by far was their Walnford, a blend of Cab Franc (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%).  After my wife snapped this picture we both enjoyed a glass of this nice dry red and soaked up the radiant sunshine until we reluctantly agreed we needed to start our journey home.  Nice afternoon.  We were sorry we missed their Chambourcin and their Red Zinfandel.  Guess we’ll be back…
